ABSTRACT

Papers are being collected from university researchers, from industries specialized in conceiving, designing, installing, operating and testing radar systems for civilian and defense applications, from users and governmental/international agencies. Authors are also invited from industries that provide instruments to test radar performances. The scope of the special session is to have a wide view of the methods, instruments and practical experience to test subsystems and radar systems (for land based, shipborne, on drones, aircraft and satellites).

TOPICS

Topics of relevance for the session are:

  • Instrument test equipment for verification and validation in the industry, at the customer site, on the operational fields.
  • Automation and remote test equipment will be of special interest.
  • Virtual reality technologies are also most welcome as topics of the session.
  • As well as LiDAR remote sensing and applications.

Moreover, theoretical papers are also very welcome.

SPECIAL SESSION AWARDS

BEST PAPER AWARD - SPONSORED BY MDPI REMOTE SENSING JOURNAL
IEEE AES
Remote Sensing

This awards recognize the most outstanding papers of the Special Session on Metrology for Radar Systems.
The awards are sponsored by IEEE AES Italy Chapter and MDPI Remote Sensing Journal.

Corresponding authors of each awarded paper will be entitled to:

  • A prize money amounting to
    • 500 CHF for the award sponsored by MDPI Remote Sensing;
    • 500 EUR for the award sponsored by IEEE AES Italy Chapter.
  • A signed and stamped official Award Certificate;
  • The announcement of their achievement on a special conference webpage.

Basis for Judging: A selection committee will be appointed by the Chairs of the Special Session "Metrology for Radar Systems". Papers are judged based on technical merit, originality, potential impact on the field, clarity of the written paper, and quality of the conference presentation.

Presentation: The awards will be announced and presented at the IEEE MetroAeroSpace Closing Ceremony.

Silvia Liberata Ullo is an IEEE Senior Member, the Industry Liaison for the IEEE Italy Joint ComSoc/VTS Chapter. She is a member of the Academic Senate at University of Sannio, and the National Referent for the FIDAPA BPW Italy Sciences and Technologies Task Force. She graduated with laude in Electronic Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, of Federico II University, in Naples. She received the M.Sc. in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Boston, USA, in June 1992. Since 2004 she is a researcher with the University of Sannio di Benevento, where she teaches Signal theory and elaboration, and Telecommunication networks, courses for the degree in Electronic Engineering and the Optical and radar remote sensing as Ph.D. course. She has authored 76 research papers in reputed journals and conferences, and co-authored many book chapters. She is part of the Telecommunications and Remote Sensing group at the University of Sannio, and her research interests mainly deal with signal processing, remote sensing, image and satellite data analysis, machine learning applied to satellite data, ESA Copernicus mission, cognitive radars, sensor networks, telecommunications networks, and smart grids. She was awarded in 1990 with the Marisa Bellisario prize from the homonymous foundation, which annually rewards women entrepreneurs and young graduates who have distinguished themselves in traditionally male fields such as Engineering. In the same year, she was awarded with the Marisa Bellisario scholarship from the ITALTEL S.p.A. company. This scholarship has been awarded since 1989 to an Engineering female student who had completed her studies brilliantly (only one scholarship per year at national level). The ITALTEL scholarship allowed her to pursue the Master of Science at MIT, obtaining the title in June 1992.
She has been with ITALTEL, since September 1992. She served as a Chief of some production lines at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere factory (CE), until January 2000. After that, she won a public competition and started working at the Center for Data Processing (CED) in the Municipality of Benevento, from January 2000 to January 2004. In February 2004, she won a researcher contest at the Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Sannio, Benevento.
