AutoInvent – Multipurpose Automatic UAV Measurement System

Bartosz Brzozowski

JSW Nowe Projekty S.A., Poland

ABSTRACT

AutoInvent System was originally developed as an unmanned aerial system that enables the automation of volume measurements and three-dimensional terrain modeling, as the result of a project implemented in the research program organized by the National Center for Research and Development – INNOSBZ co-financed by European Union from European Regional Development Fund within the Smart Growth operational Programme 2014-2020. The main goal of the AutoInvent project was to develop an automatic, multi-sensor unmanned aerial vehicle system.

The main advantage of the AutoInvent System is the level of its automation, whereas the possible deployment of the System depends on the equipment that will be connected to the unmanned aerial vehicle and used as a measurement head, what leads to the multipurpose measurement possibilities. Due to usage of an appropriately developed and programmed flying measurement platform, the AutoInvent System shows autonomous features, which means the ability to periodically perform the tasks independently, according to a set schedule and taking into account the prevailing weather conditions. During the execution of the planned mission by the unmanned aerial vehicle a series of automatic tasks are performed: take-off, flight along a programmed route accordingly to the waypoints, execution of planned measurements, return and landing at the dedicated, automatic aerodrome, sending the collected measurements to the data management and processing center for further processing.

During the tutorial the sample process of the measurements using the AutoInvent System will be demonstrated.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

Bartosz Brzozowski has a Dr Eng. Degree in the field of Mechanics, with specialization in dynamics and control systems of aircrafts for the thesis about developed optimal control algorithm for multirotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
He has been working at the Faculty of Mechatronics and Aerospace of the Military University of Technology between 2009 and 2018. He took part in two projects financed from EU founds, four nationally founded research projects and received four institutional grants for Young Scientists. Those grants were a financial support to cultivate his main area of interest: navigation and control of UAVs. For his scientific work he received a scholarship form province major during his PhD studies and an Award for the Best Paper presented by a Young Researcher at the 1st IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for Aerospace. He has been chairing the Special Session on Metrology and Instrumentation for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle three times in editions 2017-2019 of IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for Aerospace.
In January 2018 he has become a R&D Team Leader and project manager in JSW Nowe Projekty S.A. where he is supervising research and leading projects in the area of UAVs.
