SPECIAL SESSION #5
Emerging Trends in Multimodal Sensor Fusion for Enhanced Aerospace Metrology
ORGANIZED BY
Pasquale Longobardi
École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland
ABSTRACT
This special session aims to showcase the latest advances in sensor fusion techniques for autonomous navigation in the aerospace industry. It covers an array of methodologies such as:
- Kalman Filters (Extended, Unscented, Consider, etc.)
- Particle Filters
- Factor graph Bayesian networks
Submissions are expected to present research on novel algorithms, mathematical models, and practical implementations of sensor fusion techniques. The session will also address challenges related to multimodal sensor fusion, data synchronization, calibration, and validation methodologies. Contributions discussing robustness enhancements, real-time data processing, accuracy improvements, and practical applications in aerospace navigation systems, including UAVs and spacecraft, will be encouraged.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZER
Pasquale Longobardi holds a MSc from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in Microengineering, Robotics and Autonomous Systems track, a Minor in Space Technologies from the same institution and a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II where he graduated with full marks. He is currently pursuing his PhD in the geodetic engineering laboratory with particular research interests in sensor fusion, autonomous navigation and aerodynamic characterization of UAVs.
