Innovative technologies and solutions for Advanced Air Mobility and Urban Air Mobility

ABSTRACT
Autonomy is needed by Unmanned Aircraft Systems to support functions where the control of remote operator can be limited, such as operations in GPS Challenging Conditions, Beyond the Visual Line-Of-Sight, and Sense and Avoid. New aerial platforms are being developed, such as Advanced Air Mobility and Urban Mobility Systems, that will require dedicated solutions to support piloting with reduced skills in complex environments, such us Very Low-altitude Airspace over urban areas. Specific solutions and applications for the Unmanned Traffic Management will require innovative functions and procedures in urban environment, such as Traffic Flow Management, Self-separation, and Autonomous Identification. Management of coordinated flight of platforms, e.g. swarm of drones, is planned also including terrestrial and naval platforms. The session encourages the submission of papers that address all the above mentioned subjects to support an updated overview about the state-of-art of research in this field.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
Claudia Conte is untenured assistant professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II within the national center for sustainable mobility (CN MOST) Spoke 1 – Air Mobility and she is the teacher of the Aircraft On Board Systems course in the same university. She defended her Ph.D. thesis in 2023 within the Ph.D. Program in Technology, Innovation and Management at Università degli Studi di Bergamo and Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II. She is involved in the activities dedicated to technology transfer at Laboratory for Innovative Flight Technologies (LIFT) at the Center for advanced metrological and technological services (CeSMA – Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II). Her research activities are focused on integrated navigation solutions for autonomous systems and techniques for Unmanned Traffic Management also exploiting Artificial Intelligence based methods. She is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Associazione Italiana di Aeronautica e Astronautica (AIDAA), and Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA). She is also a member of IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group Italy Section, actively participating in events organization, such as round tables and panels during conferences.
Domenico Accardo is Full Professor for the subjects of Aerospace Systems, Avionics and Air Traffic Management at Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II and at the Italian Air Force Academy. He has a PhD degree in Aerospace Science and Technologies. He is the Head of the Center for advanced metrological and technological services (CeSMA – Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II), i.e. the center that deals with advanced technology transfer activities on behalf of the university. He has been Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator for several research projects in the fields of Sensors and Systems for Guidance, Navigation and Control, Remotely Piloted Aircraft and Air Traffic Management. He has published more than 120 indexed articles for international journals and conferences. He is the first author of an international patent (EP 2466568 B1) relating to an original method of predicting the vertical profile of aircraft trajectories. He was Chairman of the Sensor Systems & Information Fusion Technical Committee SSIF-TC of the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics AIAA. He is Chair of Undergraduate and Graduate Committee in Management of Aerospace Systems for Defense in collaboration between UNINA and the Italian Air Force Academy. It is part of the "critical mass" of the national center for sustainable mobility (CN MOST), Spoke 1 – Air Mobility.
